On Saturday 27 June 2026 Central England Quakers Responding to Racism Group and The United Church of St Paul, Balsall Heath co-hosted a day workshop on Mukti Barton’s book Wrestling with Imperial Christianity.
The book invites us to heed Jesus’ call to become Wisdom Warriors. Jesus (Wisdom incarnate) calls on humanity to:
“become ekklesia, people called out of the mammonic world to become wisdom warriors (chayil), because Wisdom herself is a non-violent warrior for justice”.
“Wrestling with Imperial Christianity” p 244
An ecumenical and interfaith group of approx 40 people attended and we deep dived together into the work.
You can read participants’ reflections on the workshop in more depth: Reflections on “Wrestling with Imperial Christianity” Workshop 27 June 2026
A moving moment was when we sang:
“When I needed Wisdom Warriors
were you there, were you there?
When I needed Wisdom Warriors
were you there?
And the creed and the colour and the name don’t matter, were you there?”
We want to continue to become “ekklesia” (respond to the call to be Wisdom Warriors); to dismantle Imperial Christianity. We hope to facilitate workshop events for local churches, worship groups and anti-imperial organisations.
We would be delighted to hear from you if you can join us with our “wisdom warrior” work and/or if your Quaker Meeting (or other group/organisation) would like to host a workshop or activity.
