A Million Acts of Hope

Could you share your Quaker volunteering story for A Million Acts of Hope? Deadline 27 April 2026.

Quaker Voluntary Action (QVA) will join other faith groups and charities across Britain this May to showcase, celebrate and inspire ‘A Million Acts of Hope’. This is a joint campaign, which the organisers explain aims to “drive hope, build social cohesion and resilience, and build alternative narratives to those rooted in hate and division”.

“Watching the news or looking at your social media feed, it’s easy to believe that the UK is more divided than ever. The voices of those who seek to spread hate, harm our communities and separate us are loud.”- A Million Acts of Hope.

In our aim to be a Quaker voice for volunteering, we would like to gather your stories of service, and then share them on our communication channels and with the campaign organisers during the week of action, 13-20 May 2026.

As A Million Acts of Hope describes it, these can be stories of “how we look after each other. How we show up for those who need us. How we work together to sort stuff out that makes lives better. How we keep each other safe and our local areas clean.”

We hope you will want to get involved and help us gather a collection of hopeful, inspiring stories that highlight the invaluable impact that Spirit-led, community-based volunteering makes to people, places, and communities. For example:

  • Something your Local or Area Quaker Meeting has done together, perhaps making, or collecting donations of, clothes for refugees or others in need.
  • A QVA volunteer retreat where you gave time and skills to fix things at the host venue, so others could enjoy peaceful rest and relaxation there.
  • A local community initiative such as litter picking, or volunteering at your local library, foodbank, youth club, etc.
  • Any of the quiet, perhaps ordinary acts of service that you might not feel are particularly remarkable, but which uphold people and communities with love, care and attention, thereby building connection, resilience and trust.

Please email Suzie Green, QVA’s Communications Manager with your story (maximum 300 words) by 27 April.
