Belief in Dialogue Online Interfaith Forum
27/09/2026, 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
OnlineRhiannon Grant of Central England Quakers will be part of an interfaith panel organised by the Belief in Dialogue Forum (who promote ‘Honest Questions and Frank Answers: Discussions among the World’s Religious and Nonreligious Communities’).
One definition of the mystical is personal spiritual experience of the transcendent or the Divine. For example, in the biblical Burning Bush story, Moses encounters the Spirit of God (mystical experience), and was told to go to Pharaoh to ask for release of slaves (justice for an oppressed group). One study of fifty human rights defenders reported a “force beyond themselves” inspiring their work. Quakers, through their silent worship, have for nearly 400 years done significant work for peace and justice. They are perhaps the only religion to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. Encounters with a “Presence” seem common across world religions and are often transformative. Is spiritual experience connected with concern for others and the earth? Are mystical/spiritual experiences a key to justice and peace?
