Quakerism offers families a supportive space where children and adults can grow spiritually together. Quakers believe that there is that of God in everyone so every voice matters – children are respected, listened to, encouraged to ask questions, be curious and find their own path.
Children’s Meeting at Selly Oak Quaker Meeting
Selly Oak Quaker Meeting is very welcoming of children, young people and families and has a wonderful, supportive group of families who attend.
When?
Children’s Meeting is held every Sunday at 10.30am except the first Sunday of the month when Meeting for Worship is at 2.30pm. Sometimes we do something different on first Sundays such as visiting another Quaker Meeting or going to the park.

How it works
Children’s Meeting meets in their own room which is well-equipped with toys for different ages and craft materials. We also have use of a fantastic garden with a lawn, woodland area, tree swing and large planters. We often begin the session by checking in and sharing news. Then there might be a story followed by a craft activity. Or we might play games or do something outside. There are always two DBS checked adults present. We join Meeting for Worship for the last 10 minutes or so and have the opportunity to share with the rest of the Meeting what we have been doing. After this, refreshments are available and there is an opportunity for free play inside or outside (under the supervision of parent/carers).
There is an annual bonfire, annual barbeque, theatre trip and special breakfast before Christmas for the whole Meeting which are very much enjoyed by our children and young people.
