Our Quaker Way: Read, Reflect, Respond

The first complete draft of ‘Our Quaker Way’* will be available to Friends in November 2026.

Woodbrooke is working alongside the Book of Discipline Revision Committee and Quakers in Britain to help Friends across Britain engage with the draft.

Friends will have around 6 months to read, reflect and respond to the book before the Yearly Meeting Residential in July 2027.

There will be a range of resources to help individual Friends, meetings and other groups through a programme of reading the draft text, reflecting on it, and responding to it. The resources include online materials and events, courses, in-person events, and support from local development workers and Woodbrooke Where You Are opportunities.

Although the first complete draft of the new Book of Discipline will not be available until later this year, there is much your meeting can do now. Consider setting aside time in your Area Meeting or community calendar and begin talking about how your Local Meetings or groups would like to engage with the process.

Will you read the draft together over several sessions, or encourage Friends to read individually before coming together for worshipful reflection? Would you like to use Woodbrooke’s self-guided resources, invite us to facilitate a workshop, or simply use our videos and Pathways to support your own discussions?

Planning now will help ensure that when the draft is released, your meeting can focus on what matters most—reading, reflecting and discerning together.

*This first draft’s working title is “Our Quaker Way: the spiritual discipline of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) in Britain”. The committee discerned this working title to seek to encapsulate in a few words the spiritual life, experience, faith and practice of our yearly meeting. The working title was deliberately chosen, among other reasons, to distinguish this draft from Quaker faith & practice which will continue in parallel until the new book of discipline is finally adopted. It will be for Yearly Meeting to discern the final title of the new book.
