A regular silent vigil is held by Quakers every Wednesday 1:30 – 1:45pm outside St Phillips Cathedral, central Birmingham. Then at 2pm at the nearby Peace Hub, there is a letter writing session for climate prisoners.

Vigil – Concern about the Climate Crisis

Wednesdays 1:30 – 1:45pm, Cathedral Square (aka Pigeon park), B3 2QB

The vigil called “Concern about the Climate Crisis” and all are invited to stand with us. You will find us against the east wall of the cathedral come rain or shine.  We have banners to hold, and some of us wear a Quaker badge.  Sometimes there are only 2 or 3 of us there, at other times 5 or 6. The photo above shows the group this week.

Recent vigils have received positive responses from passers by – when there are more of us, we attract more interest, so your participation will make a difference.

Climate Prisoner letter writing

Wednesdays 2:00 – 3:30pm, Peace Hub, 41 Bull St, B4 6AF

Quakers concerned about climate justice and the current draconian response to non-violent direct action, invite you to join in solidarity.

We write messages of support to activists who are currently on remand, serving a sentence, or already gone through the prison system, as a result of their climate activism.  Some can receive postcards, for others email seems to be the better option, due to prison rules or individual preference.

All welcome, simply bring yourself and a pen and/or device for sending emails (wi-fi is available). We can provide names, addresses and blank postcards.
