Most Quaker Meetings try to use Fairtrade tea & coffee, and several in Central England have signed up as Fairtrade Meetings. Fairtrade Fortnight will take place from Monday 9 September – Sunday 22 September 2024. It’s an opportunity to explain why we support Fairtrade, and to speak up for fairer trade.
Fairtrade works with farmers and workers, supply chain partners, brands, retailers, shoppers, schools, government – to pay fair prices and uphold fair production standards and practices. For 30 years Fairtrade has tried to use consumer power to support producers to improve their living standards, invest in their communities and businesses, and protect our shared environment.
Now the Fairtrade Foundation is seeking to lobby politicians to change the rules of trade, so that all trade is fair. This Fairtrade Fortnight a new campaign is being launched: the Be the Change challenge to newly elected MPs. Join by asking your MP to step up and stand with Fairtrade farmers, and supporters like you, who are leading the way in building a fairer future.
There is more information and resources that your meeting can use, on the Fairtrade Foundation website.
Note that Fairtrade Fortnight used to be at the start of Lent, but has moved to September to give more time to make the most of the activities and awareness around the campaign.
