Silent vigil to oppose Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill

12/06/2021, 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

at outside Leamington Town Hall, Leamington Spa

Quakers have joined 150 groups to object to the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill which will hand police draconian powers over everyone’s right to protest. It will apply existing rules for marches, to static protests. Friends House has written to the Home Secretary and Justice Secretary. The bill will also criminalise the way of life of Gypsy and Traveller communities. The bill has passed its second reading and is now at committee stage; we don’t know when it will come back to Parliament. It was included in the Queens Speech.

So: Warwick Quakers decided at Business Meeting on 2 May, to hold a silent vigil to protest against the bill.

We will meet at 11 on Saturday 12 June, outside Leamington Town Hall.

Please bring a chair, we will sit in a circle for one hour.

Please make a placard that you can hold, that is easy to read.
For example QUAKERS SUPPORT THE RIGHT TO PROTEST or QUAKERS SILENT VIGIL TO PROTEST THE POLICE AND CRIME BILL.
Or whatever you want to say.

DO PLEASE COME!
