Council of Christians & Jews Autumn Programme

The Council of Christians & Jews (Birmingham branch) have announced their autumn programme.  Quakers are represented on the group, and the September event is of particular interest to Quakers:

Thursday September 27th, 7.45 pm, Woodbrooke Quaker Studies Centre, International friendship in action: Birmingham Quakers and aid to refugees in the 1930s and 1940s with Dr Sian Roberts.  Sian is a lecturer in Education and Social Justice at the University of Birmingham, and her research focuses on Quaker women active in education and humanitarian aid in the first half of the twentieth century.

Tuesday November 6th, 7.45 pm, Woodbrooke Quaker Studies Centre, Hans Schwarz  – Negotiating Identity with Ellie Hill, Researcher in Residence at the University of Birmingham.  This evening will explore issues of displacement, acculturation and identity trauma in the works of Austrian born artist, Hans Schwarz: a Kindertransport refugee exiled to Bournville, Birmingham in 1939.

Tuesday December 4th, 7.45 pm, Birmingham Progressive Synagogue, God, Prayer and Me with our committee members, Hilary Johnson and Michael Kretzmer who will facilitate discussion.

Everyone is welcome to meetings of Birmingham CCJ. We meet about once a month for a wide variety of talks and other events through which we hope to build bridges and friendships between the Jewish and Christian communities, and to learn about one another’s faith traditions.

We suggest a donation of £3 for meetings at Woodbrooke, to cover our costs.
