Stourbridge hosts Yearly Meeting visitors

John Lampen from Stourbridge Quaker Meeting reports on the meeting’s involvement with visitors from Yearly Meeting Gathering.

On the Wednesday of Yearly Meeting Gathering, the participants could go out on trips.  One coach load visited the Black Country Living Museum, and we hosted its thirty-three people, including four children, to tea at our Meeting House on their way back.  Enid Carpenter managed to cover the whole history of the building in a five-minute talk which was appreciated.  Afterwards the children enjoyed searching for the names written on our panelling by Quaker children nearly two hundred years ago.  The food (though we say it ourselves!) was tasty and generous and obviously enjoyed, and there was time for conversation.  One participant who was feeling isolated at the Gathering was overcome with the warmth of our welcome.  Stourbridge Friends were glad to contribute to Yearly Meeting Gathering in this modest way.
