Coventry Quakers Attend Syrian Refugee Meal of Thanks

David Fish from Coventry Meeting reports:

Gillian Anderson, Carol Rank and David Fish attended this gala meal of Syrian food at St. Peters Centre, Charles Street, Coventry on Saturday 3rd December 2016. 180 people listened to speeches led by Sabir Zazai Chair of the Refugee Centre. One guest of honour was Penny Walker who started the Peace House and Refugee Centre and whom William Waddilove and Gillian Anderson have supported for years and years.

Sabir talked about his journey to the UK, his first rented flat in Hillfields and his visit to an unused shop where there were second hand clothes to take, a single desk top computer, printer and Penny Walker.  From that small beginning the Refugee Centre is a fairly large and very professional organisation. The Bishop of Coventry gave a wonderful speech. Coventry has welcomed more Syrian families than any other English city.
